Jump Force exists to finally answer that age-old question of who would win in a fight between Dragon Ball Z‘s Goku and One Piece‘s Luffy.

While the arena fighting game did not receive the greatest of reviews, Bandai Namco‘s epic crossover does have a decent combat system that largely rises above the questionable visuals or lackluster campaign. As a casual multiplayer fighting game, Jump Force is acceptable, permitting other people are actually playing online.

Due to the game’s nature, a tier list is less set in stone than something like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. More often than not, a player’s selection will mostly be determined by their anime preferences. While some characters have a noticeable disadvantage, like Sanji not being able to fight (the five) female characters, most are viable. Still, certain fighters will always be better than others.

As a side note, assist moves will not be considered.

Updated on April 20, 2021, by Reyadh Rahaman: Becoming proficient with a character’s moves and abilities are crucial to success in both online and offline play. Despite typical RPG factors like stats determining the overall effectiveness of certain moves, the variety to be had in terms of this game’s roster leaves plenty of room for someone to find a playstyle that suits their preferences and temperament.

10 Dio

Frankly, it would be sacrilege to not include our lord and savior in the top ten list. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders‘ antagonist takes some getting used to, but Dio’s moveset packs an incredible punch and offers a devastating Awakening Move called “The World”.

Dio is quite a slow character, particularly when it comes to his normal combos; conversely, the villain is an absolute powerhouse. Add the fact that combos can chain into specials like “Checkmate” and, in the right hands, Dio can be devastating.

Dio’s Move List

  • Useless, Useless: R2+Square [PS4]/ RT+X [Xbox One]
  • Checkmate: R2+Triangle [PS4]/ RT+Y [Xbox One]
  • Blend: R2+Circle [PS4]/ RT+B [Xbox One]
  • The World (Awakening Move): R2+X (With Awakening meter 50% filled) [PS4]/ RT+A (With Awakening Meter 50% filled) [Xbox One]

9 Asta

As Black Clover‘s sole representative, Asta shoulders the full weight of representing his anime and manga. Luckily, the non-magic user serves as another example of swordsmen ranking among Jump Force‘s most consistently deadly warriors.

Asta is designed with chained attacks in mind, while successfully hitting his Awakening Move, “Black Meteorite”, temporarily renders the opponent unable to use special abilities.

Asta’s Move List

  • Demon Slayer Sword: R2+Square [PS4]/ RT+X [Xbox One]
  • Demon-Dweller Sword: R2+Triangle [PS4]/ RT+Y [Xbox One]
  • Black Hurricane: R2+Circle [PS4]/ RT+B [Xbox One]
  • Black Meteorite (Awakening Move): R2+X (With Awakening meter 50% filled) [PS4]/ RT+A (With Awakening Meter 50% filled) [Xbox One]

8 Aizen

Bleach‘s characters are generally treated pretty well by Jump Force, with even those who failed to make this list being decent options. Aizen is somewhat of a mixed bag, as he is most effective against an opponent who is blissfully unaware of the villain’s moveset.

Aizen’s button-mashing combos are great, with the Soul Reaper flickering all over the place to confuse (or frustrate) other players. While Aizen’s abilities are quite powerful, “Black Coffin” has an extensive charge time that means it is near impossible to execute.

Aizen’s Move List

  • Fiery Lightning Howl: R2+Square [PS4]/ RT+X [Xbox One]
  • Black Coffin: R2+Triangle [PS4]/ RT+Y [Xbox One]
  • Airtight: R2+Circle [PS4]/ RT+B [Xbox One]
  • Five-Dragon Destruction (Awakening Move): R2+X (With Awakening meter 50% filled) [PS4]/ RT+A (With Awakening Meter 50% filled) [Xbox One]

7 Hisoka

Hisoka’s creepy behavior is not just a front, as Hunter x Hunter‘s fascinating antagonist is more than capable of backing up his unsettling remarks. In Jump Force, Hisoka is one of the more strategic characters, with a moveset that requires precise timing and patience.

His counters are designed to catch those who run into battle without much thought and are particularly effective at breaking up combos or ability spammers. He is a punishing character but not necessarily overpowered.

Hisoka’s Move List

  • Bungee Gum: R2+Square [PS4]/ RT+X [Xbox One]
  • Anonymous Magician: R2+Triangle [PS4]/ RT+Y [Xbox One]
  • Grim Reaper’s Quiz: R2+Circle [PS4]/ RT+B [Xbox One]
  • Human Hammer (Awakening Move): R2+X (With Awakening meter 50% filled) [PS4]/ RT+A (With Awakening Meter 50% filled) [Xbox One]

6 Naruto

Boruto almost made the cut, but the original is just slightly better. Overall, Naruto‘s characters are average in Jump Force, with the titular character and Kaguya being the exceptions. While the latter is a contender for the worst fighter in the game, the former is fast, deadly, and has a visually impressive and powerful Awakening Move.

Naruto’s abilities are all great, especially “Rasengan”, which quickly closes the gap between the player and the opponent before delivering a devastating blow that is difficult to avoid.

Naruto’s Move List

  • Rasengan: R2+Square [PS4]/ RT+X [Xbox One]
  • Tailed Beast Bomb Rasen Shuriken: R2+Triangle [PS4]/ RT+Y [Xbox One]
  • Six Paths Spar: R2+Circle [PS4]/ RT+B [Xbox One]
  • Tailed Beast Bomb (Awakening Move): R2+X (With Awakening meter 50% filled) [PS4]/ RT+A (With Awakening Meter 50% filled) [Xbox One]

5 Killua

Hunter x Hunter is one of the greatest shounen anime of all time, so it’s only fitting that arguably the best character in the show is a beast in Jump Force. While it may be easy to become distracted by Killua’s electrifying appearance, that should not overshadow the fighter’s incredible moveset.

Killua’s brilliance comes down to one specific move: Godspeed. While not too common, there are a few abilities that grant stat boosts, with Killua’s Godspeed arguably being the best. Along with delivering a powerful hit to anyone who steps into the attack’s zone, a fully charged Godspeed also enhances Killua’s speed and attack power. The character is among the fasted in the game, which is always a positive for getting around blocks.

Killua’s Move List

  • Lightning Palm: R2+Square [PS4]/ RT+X [Xbox One]
  • Thunderbolt: R2+Triangle [PS4]/ RT+Y [Xbox One]
  • Godspeed: R2+Circle [PS4]/ RT+B [Xbox One]
  • Godspeed Bolt (Awakening Move): R2+X (With Awakening meter 50% filled) [PS4]/ RT+A (With Awakening Meter 50% filled) [Xbox One]

4 Kenshin

Kenshin is among the most overpowered characters in the game, with a rush combo that seems to last forever and delivers decent damage. Kenshin’s heavy combo is also effective, ending with a spinning attack that usually breaks through guards.

Kenshin’s abilities are universally devastating, but “Dragon Cry Flash” deserves a special mention. This move hits for a ton of damage, chains seamlessly into combos, and Kenshin looks awesome while doing it. Conversely, Kenshin’s Awakening Move is just decent.

Kenshin’s Move List

  • Nine-Headed Dragon Flash: R2+Square [PS4]/ RT+X [Xbox One]
  • Flash of the Heavenly Flying Dragon: R2+Triangle [PS4]/ RT+Y [Xbox One]
  • Dragon Cry Flash: R2+Circle [PS4]/ RT+B [Xbox One]
  • Godspeed Flash of the Heavenly Flying Dragon (Awakening Move): R2+X (With Awakening meter 50% filled) [PS4]/ RT+A (With Awakening Meter 50% filled) [Xbox One]

3 Yugi Moto

Yu-Gi-Oh!‘s protagonist is one of those fighters who people are likely to ignore because he just doesn’t seem all that powerful. While fighting with cards might seem silly on the surface, Yugi is arguably the best distance fighter in Jump Force. It seems like his entire moveset is forged around keeping opponents at a safe distance.

“Dark Magician Strike” is particularly useful for stunning enemies, but even Yugi’s basic combos are fantastic at disrupting the opponent’s flow. Embrace the power of the cards.

Yugi Moto’s Move List

  • Dark Magician Strike: R2+Square [PS4]/ RT+X [Xbox One]
  • Dark Magician Girl Summon: R2+Triangle [PS4]/ RT+Y [Xbox One]
  • Draw!: R2+Circle [PS4]/ RT+B [Xbox One]
  • Slifer the Sky Dragon (Awakening Move): R2+X (With Awakening meter 50% filled) [PS4]/ RT+A (With Awakening Meter 50% filled) [Xbox One]

2 Ichigo

Another example of Bleach drawing the longest straw in Jump Force, Ichigo puts to shame the likes of Goku and Luffy. Ichigo moves at a breathtaking speed, while the Soul Reaper’s attacks have a generous range for a swordsman.

Compared to the majority of the roster, Ichigo is among the few fighters who truly benefit from Awakening, as a full charge transforms his appearance and grants a speed boost. Ichigo’s Awakening Move can only be side-stepped and not blocked, which is easier said than done when executed after a combo.

Ichigo’s Move List

  • Piercer of Heavens: Zero – R2+Square [PS4]/ RT+X [Xbox One]
  • Piercer of Heavens: Moon Fang Cross Blast – R2+Triangle [PS4]/ RT+Y [Xbox One]
  • Piercer of Souls – R2+Circle [PS4]/ RT+B [Xbox One]
  • Shin Tensa Zangetsu (Awakening Move) – R2+X (With Awakening meter 50% filled) [PS4]/ RT+A (With Awakening Meter 50% filled) [Xbox One]

1 Zoro

In terms of pure damage, One Piece‘s Zoro is a tier below the likes of Ichigo, Kenshin, or even Blackbeard. However, in terms of abilities, Zoro has comfortably the most overwhelming collection. In some way or another, Jump Force ensures that every ability can be avoided, be it through a well-timed block or a side-step. Out of the entire roster, Zoro is the hardest to defend against.

“One-Sword Style Lai Death Lion Song” can be chained following a throw and delivers very good damage, even if it was retroactively nerfed. “The Billion-Fold World Trichiliocosm” is one of the few Awakening Moves that cannot be blocked, making it the perfect way to end most battles.

Zoro’s Move List

  • 1080 Pound Phoenix: R2+Square [PS4]/ RT+X [Xbox One]
  • One-Sword Style Lai Death Lion Song: R2+Triangle [PS4]/ RT+Y [Xbox One]
  • Three Thousand Worlds: R2+Circle [PS4]/ RT+B [Xbox One]
  • The Billion-Fold World Trichiliocosm (Awakening Move): R2+X (With Awakening meter 50% filled) [PS4]/ RT+A (With Awakening Meter 50% filled) [Xbox One]
