DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Will Feature A Baby Yoda-Inspired Episode

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow drastically turned things around after its poorly-received 1st season, and it hasn’t slowed down since. One episode could feature a giant Furby-esque toy wreaking havoc on the countryside while another might boast carnivorous unicorns ruining Woodstock. But one other area the show shines in is its pop culture references, with plenty of homages to classic nerdy favorites like E.T. and Star Trek (often having something to do with resident history geek Nate). Now, it looks like that trend will continue into the series’ 6th season, and things will probably be getting a bit more contemporary.

The upcoming season will apparently include an episode revolving around an adorable little alien inspired by the tiny cutie Grogu (unofficially named Baby Yoda) from The Mandalorian. The extraterrestrial troublemaker just so happens to wreak havoc with the timeline and cause all sorts of mayhem with the team. The hijinks will throw the life of relative newbie to the Legends (since late season 4, anyway) Behrad Tarazi into disarray, messing up his own past and changing his whole personality as a result. Anyone who thinks this sounds completely bonkers and out there has clearly never watched the show, because this somehow isn’t even the first time this oddly specific problem has occurred (the cute alien is new, though).

In case it wasn’t obvious for those unfamiliar with the show, Legends of Tomorrow deals primarily with time travel, even though it somehow still remains in the same “universe” as its fellow DC shows like The Flash and Supergirl. The titular Legends travel through time in their ship, known as the Waverider, chasing villains and correcting anachronisms that pop up throughout history. While the 1st season took itself relatively seriously, the series has since embraced the absurdity of its premise, resulting in some truly memorable moments among this temporal team of misfits. There’s nothing quite like seeing a giant telepathic gorilla attack a college-aged Barack Obama, and no, that’s not a Mad Lib.

Featuring an eclectic group of characters like a brother and sister team with elemental powers and the pyromaniac Mick Rory (whose actor Dominic Purcell seems appropriately fiery in real life as well), the series has charmed audiences consistently and is regularly considered among the best of The CW’s DC superhero shows. Its self-aware humor combined with genuine, heartfelt connections between the characters (particularly the adorable co-captain couple of Sara Lance and Ava Sharpe) keep audiences coming back for more, so it’s not that surprising to see it’s lasted 6 seasons.

A show like Legends of Tomorrow doesn’t come around often. Capturing the sci-fi adventure vibe of shows like Quantum Leap (albeit hopefully with a more satisfying conclusion), it brings TV back to a simpler time where plots didn’t always have to make sense as long as they were still entertaining. Is it perfect? Hardly. But it’s got heart, and that’s… well not exactly rare, there’s no reason to get cynical here. But it’s still valuable.

Season 6 already looks to have plenty of pleasant surprises in store, so that should make the wait that much more agonizing. Luckily, there’s still plenty of other shows to keep everyone company until it happens, but come on, people can only go so long without enjoying another adventure with the team of magic time raiders and their moms.
