Biomutant’s Automaton Sounds Like a ‘Create-Your-Own’ Clank

Biomutant is a few days from its official release, but the amount of information currently available is rather limited. Many gamers who became fans of the game over time are now speculating about what some features could be, if Biomutant is a multiplayer game, and more. Among said features, there is the fact that the game’s description includes a line saying that players will be able to meet characters that will craft cool items for them, and they will also allow them to modify their Automaton. Biomutant lets players create their own mutant and customize lots of aspects for it, and the Automaton is a little scrap-toy sidekick.

Considering how this little friend is made of metal, and how mixing and matching Biomutant‘s vehicles is a thing, including the Mekton for example, it’s not that unlikely that modifying the Automaton will grant players special abilities to use, or utility skills. In a sense, this sidekick could become Biomutant‘s version of Clank from the Ratchet and Clank series, where the robot can be upgraded to use new gadgets or enhanced variants of them. While this remains speculation, considering the aforementioned lack of information on Biomutant, it remains well within the realm of possibilities.

The Mekton is the prime example of how mechanical stuff can be customized both in terms of aesthetics and in terms of which abilities and weapons it can use. Gameplay videos showed how Biomutant players will be able to change the contraption’s head, and others have shown that the Mekton can use different upgrades to do all sorts of things, including firing guns, launching decoys, drenching toxic liquids, leaping with a rocket burst, and more.

This speaks to the depth of its customization features. All other vehicles in Biomutant will be upgradeable as well, and some of them will be required even during boss encounters against the World Leaders. It only makes sense that the Automaton’s abilities, too, will change when it is upgraded.

There are many gadgets in Biomutant, including a backpack that becomes a sort of levitating rug, mechanical arms used to smash bunker doors, a contraption that acts like Ratchet and Clank‘s Heli-Pack, a pair of wings that allow the character to glide in the air, and even more. There also seems to be a lot of crafting in Biomutant, with many components and materials to be found. In a world with so many extravagant inventions, robots, and steampunk elements, it’s hard to say how much of an impact the Automaton will actually have in terms of gameplay. Still, Biomutant is a world of many possibilities, and this means that even a tiny sidekick can make a difference.

Given its size, the Automaton could also be used in a way that’s very similar to how Clank helps Ratchet by going where he can’t, meaning that players could end up controlling their sidekick with the aid of a specific upgrade, for example. Otherwise, there could also be other cool things that enlarge the Automaton to make it a sort of giant menace on the battlefield, and Biomutant doesn’t seem to be a game that’s afraid to dare and do the unexpected. Again, the possibilities are endless, but as of now they still remain pure speculation.

Biomutant releases May 25, 2021, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
