As players continue to explore the vast open-world of Subnatica: Below Zero, they may realize that it can be difficult remembering every location they’ve visited. It can be very beneficial to recall the coordinates for certain resources and materials, such as remembering the best place to harvest Creepvine Samples. Luckily, players can utilize the Beacon tool to mark those special coordinates that they wish to remember.

While exploring the many regions of the Subnautica sequel, players can place Beacons to mark locations they want to remember. These portable positioning devices can be placed both underwater as well as on land. They will beep when the player gets close, alerting them to their location.

Unlike with the Portable Waypoints in Genshin Impact, players can place multiple Beacons as well as name them. However, customizing a name for a Beacon does have a 25 character limit. Although it is possible to place more than one at a time, players should be careful about placing too many active Beacons as it could make it difficult to see through the number of icons present on the screen.

Players can discover the recipe for the Beacon in a number of different ways. One of the methods of obtaining these blueprints is by crafting the Standard O2 Tank, an upgradable item used to supply oxygen to the player when swimming. This blueprint is unlocked upon entering the Drop Pod and can be crafted using the Fabricator. Players will need to collect 2x Titanium and 1x Fiber Mesh to craft the Standard O2 Tank.

As with other unknown Subnautica technology players come across in the ocean depths, blueprints can also be obtained by collecting fragments. Players can learn to craft a Beacon from studying the ones they come across while exploring. Search around the tech sites in the Arctic Kelp Forest and the Shallow Twisty Bridges. After scanning the Beacon Fragment, players will receive the Beacon blueprint.

Players can also obtain the Beacon blueprint from Data Boxes. These boxes can share blueprints with players thus teaching them how to craft certain tools and equipment. A Data Box containing the Beacon blueprint can be located on an Emergency Supply Cache near the Arctic Kelp Forest.

Once the blueprints have been unlocked, players will be able to craft their own Beacons using the necessary materials and the Fabricator. The recipe for the Beacon calls for 1x Copper Ore and 1x Titanium. After crafting, players will be able to mark special locations making it easier to return to them later.

Subnautica: Below Zero is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
