The Call of Duty: Warzone cheating problem has been well documented, though Raven Software has been pulling no punches when it comes to banning accounts. This shows clearly through the latest ban wave for Call of Duty: Warzone, as Raven has shared a surprising statistic alongside the announcement.
Like other Call of Duty: Warzone ban waves, Raven has removed 30,000 accounts from the game. While no details have been shared as to what these bans are for, they usually come back to popular hacks like aim bots and wall hacks. With the former giving players perfect accuracy and the latter allowing them to see opponents through walls, the prevalence of these hacks has made the game frustrating to play for those running into the hackers. Fortunately, there are far less cheaters in the game now thanks to yesterday’s bans.
While banning more accounts to lessen the cheating in Call of Duty: Warzone is a huge positive, the statistic included by Raven is particularly interesting. According to the developer, “over half a million” accounts have been banned since launch. This is an incredible statistic, as it confirms that at least 500,000 different cheaters have tried to ruin the fun of players inside the battle royale game. While some of the banned players were likely the same person using a second account, the number is certainly a bit absurd.
While the bans are good news, it is worth noting that some players are a bit concerned about their legitimacy. FaZe owner NICKMERCS shared his thoughts on bans a few weeks back, detailing a situation where a player was unfairly banned. With some gamers losing their accounts for using leaked items and cosmetics as opposed to actually cheating, there is certainly a chance that a small chunk of those numbers is made up of unfairly banned Call of Duty: Warzone players that have not hacked at all.
Still, the recent situation regarding streamers being harassed by hackers has shown that the bans are necessary — even if less malicious accounts are occasionally caught in the crossfire. Both TimTheTatman and CouRageJD have dealt with hackers on stream, though the latter did manage to get a Call of Duty: Warzone cheater banned live for his fans. With streamers already needing to deal with stream snipers and trolls, hackers should not have to be another problem to worry about. Still, until Activision finds a way to prevent cheaters from making new accounts after being banned, the problem is likely to keep happening.
Regardless, Call of Duty: Warzone’s latest milestone is wild to see, and hopefully the number of banned cheaters continues to rise as time goes on. As always, players will simply need to hope that they do not run into any hackers during their games.
