NieR Replicant: The Damaged Map Side Quest Walkthrough

Home » NieR Replicant: The Damaged Map Side Quest Walkthrough

While the majority of sidequests in NieR Replicant can be completed in under 10 minutes, there are a small number of quests that will take considerably longer. One of the longest sidequests that NieR Replicant players can encounter in their playthrough is “The Damaged Map” quest.

In this sidequest – which is only available after the mid-game time skip – players are tasked with retrieving a treasure map for the village blacksmith. However, unlike the equally lengthy sidequest “The Runaway Son“, which rewarded players nothing for completing it, the rewards for “The Damaged Map” sidequest make it well worth players’ time to complete.

To start the quest, head to the south end of the village shopping district and speak with the blacksmith. After a brief conversation, the blacksmith will task players with finding a treasure map that can be found somewhere that old documents are held.

To find the map, head from the shop district to the library and proceed to the second floor. The map can be found in a bookcase on the left-hand side.

After acquiring the map, the player will notice that it is too damaged to be of any use. To fix the map, head to the Strange Things Store in the town of Facade.

Once in Facade, speak with the shop vendor who will ask players to obtain three goat hides, three eggplants, and three drops of machine oil to repair the map. To find goat hides in Nier Replicant, simply farm the Eastern Road region which is accessible from the Village Hub area. The three eggplants required can be purchased for 320 gold each from the grocer in the village. Finally, the machine oil drops can be obtained from the Flying Disk robots in the Junk Heap.

With all the required materials, head back to the Strange Things store in Facade and repair the map before returning to the client in the village. When the player returns to the village the blacksmith’s wife will ask the player to search for the treasure for her husband who has become obsessed with treasure.

To find the treasure, head to the library and speak with Popola. After looking at the map, Popola will tell the player that the map appears to denote the treasure’s location in the Lost Shrine. Head to the Lost Shrine and proceed to the second floor. Players will find the treasure location tucked away in the northwest corner of the map. However, when players interact with the treasure they will find that it was nothing but a pile of rubbish.

Return to the blacksmith’s wife and inform her of the true nature of the treasure. The blacksmith’s wife will then give the player a Jade ornament, asking them to exchange it for something of value to give to her husband to lessen his disappointment about the treasure.

With the jade ornament, head back to the Strange Things Store in Facade, and exchange the ornament for a gold coin. Return to the village and present the blacksmith with the gold coin. Elated with the treasure that he thinks was found, he gives the player the damaged map as a reward.

Head back to Popola in the library to inspect the map one final time. Upon a second inspection, Popola believes that the map in fact reveals the location of a treasure found in the Northern Plains.

Travel to the Northern Plains and cross the bridge. On the opposite side to the northeast, players will notice a dilapidated bridge. Underneath the bridge players will find the treasure in the form of a rare spear called the Labyrinth’s Shout. Once players pick up the spear, the sidequest will end.

NieR Replicant is now available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
